The City of DuPont and Amazon have reached an agreement regarding trucks on Center Drive. Amazon will construct an access to Wharf Road, which a majority of the truck traffic will flow. Construction is intended to be completed by February 1, 2019 but it could be later.
The primary ingress and egress for truck traffic will be Wharf Road. However, through October, November, December, and Prime Week, Amazon may need to use Center Drive during this peak season as an ingress.
If in the event of an emergency or excessive commercial traffic then trucks can use Center Drive as an egress during that peak season of October, November, December, and Prime Week but not during the hours of 10 PM – 6 AM.
“I am pleased to announce that after over two years of negotiations, The City of DuPont and Amazon have concluded an agreement covering numerous technical aspects of our relationship. One of the principal elements of the agreement is Amazon’s purchase of a portion of Wharf Road, and preparing a new entrance/exit from their facility onto Wharf Road. When this work is complete, in early 2019, the regular entrance and exit for trucks at Amazon will be through this new access point. The result will be dramatic decrease of commercial traffic on Center Drive. I want to thank both the City of DuPont and Amazon staffs for their patience and cooperation as we worked to an agreement that will provide great benefit for our residents” said Mayor Mike Courts.
The City of DuPont and Amazon will continue to work collaboratively.
