Thomas Architecture Studios (TAS) is an architect firm out of Olympia. The City hired them not only for their expertise in architecture but for their ability to do outreach to our community. This outreach is to receive input from residents to develop a Community Center that reflects the needs and desires of our diverse community. Their work includes Pioneer Park Pavilion, Thea Foss Waterway, Lakewood Milgard HOPE Center, among others.
TAS and the City are working diligently to provide citizens with a design and cost for a potential Community Center. There are four phases the City and TAS will be working on till September – Vison/Community Outreach & Engagement, Feasibility, Planning, and Design. Currently, we are in the “Vision and Community Outreach & Engagement” stage. In this stage, the City, TAS, and stakeholders are visiting other community centers in Pierce County to get an idea of what is possible, hosting outreach meetings for the residents of DuPont throughout the City to gain their input, seeking potential partnerships, and prioritizing programming. From there TAS will conduct the Feasibility Study this includes evaluating building costs, operating costs, and funding options. Once TAS and the City get an idea of the costs the Planning stage will take place. This includes site analysis, programming and planning, site and building concept design, and a budget estimate. After receiving input from the community, TAS will work on designing different options for the Community Center and its estimated cost.
The City will have meetings throughout the process seeking input and keeping citizens informed every step of the way. At the end of this Feasibility and Planning study TAS will present a Community Center designed by the community.
