Fire Chief Michael Keohi Resigns

Fire Chief Michael Keohi has resigned after over a year of service. He has made the decision to seek other opportunities. The City is grateful for the leadership, guidance, and expertise he provided.

Chief Keohi was hired in May 2018. During his tenure, he prioritized training, supported and championed the Paramedic Levy, and modernized the Fire Department the latest of which included purchasing two new fire engines.

With fire service experience spanning over 40 years, he began his career in 1975 with the Lakewood Fire Department and worked his way up the ranks to Assistant Chief with Lakewood Fire District 2, and then West Pierce Fire and Rescue after the two districts merged.

“Mike has had a distinguished and dedicated career as a firefighter and has been extremely valuable to the Fire Department in developing, modernizing, and strategic planning. We thank him for his service to the City of DuPont and wish him well in his future endeavors” said Mayor Mike Courts.

Assistant Chief Larry Creekmore will fill in until an interim Chief can be hired and the search for a permanent Chief takes place.
