Council Appoints Pat McElligott as Interim Fire Chief

Mayor Mike Courts nominated and Council appointed Pat McElligott as the Interim Fire Chief for the DuPont Fire Department.

“It’s a great opportunity to work with the DuPont Fire Department and a professional City staff. I’m eager to get to work” said Pat McElligott.

Mr. McElligott served in the US Air Force as an Airman 1st Class from 1974 -1976. His 37 year history of firefighting began in 1981 as a fire fighter for the City of Federal Way. From 1984 to 2018 he served the City of Tacoma as a firefighter, Fire Lieutenant, Fire Captain, and in 2013 was appointed Assistant Fire Chief. He also served as the Local 31 Union President from 1990-2008 and as a Commissioner for East Pierce Fire and Rescue.

“Mr. McElligott’s extensive knowledge of municipal government, leadership, and dedication to public safety and the community made him an easy choice for the role of Interim Fire Chief. We are excited he came out retirement to serve our City and we welcome him to DuPont” said Mayor Courts.

Chief Pat McElligott starts Monday, July 29, 2019.
